A Penny Here and There Equals Pin Money

I thought it might be fun to start blogging about the little ways I have started to go about earning money on the side.

I'm calling this my "pin money" (a British term meaning money for extra little luxuries and treats), but at the moment I could just as easily call it "penny money" because much of what I am doing seems to be like gathering pennies from a fountain...just picking up a little bit here and there.

I know of people who are doing some of the same things I am doing, but are putting in a lot more time, effort and "smarts" into it and therefore they earn a lot more. I hope to gain the skills, confidence, persistence and such that I will begin to earn more too though.

Honestly, the whole experience reminds me a bit of a recurring dream I used to have for many, many years when I was a child. There were sometimes variations of this dream, but it usually went something like this. I'd be walking through the shopping mall with my sisters or other people I knew. And I would spot a quarter on the floor and I would pick it up. Then I would notice another one and another one. I'd pick them each up and soon had a couple dollars. To a child a couple dollars could be pretty exciting. But as I would pick up more and more quarters pretty soon I noticed the entire hallway was scattered with hundreds of quarters. And I was the only one picking them up. Everyone else either seemed not to notice them or didn't care. I thought there must be hundreds of dollars just in quarters and just kept scooping them up and couldn't believe no one else was as well.

Maybe I won't make hundreds of dollars from my little ventures. Actually, I have earned a bit over a hundred dollars...over a long period of time spread out...so I guess it would be more accurate to say maybe I won't make a full time income out of my little ventures. But I do know of those who do. And in the meantime, I have fun and gain a little bit of pocket money...but more importantly I gain new skills and confidence. And I like that part the most.
